The Treasurer is the county’s money manager. As such, the Treasurer is the only county official who does not deal directly with the public. Rather the Treasurer deals with other county officials. All money collected and disbursed by various county offices is funneled through the Treasurer’s office. The Treasurer keeps financial books with which all other offices must balance. Some money held by the Treasurer may be invested for the profit of the county. The Treasurer makes triplicate receipts of all moneys received, keeps all books, papers and moneys pertaining to the office ready for inspection at all times by the County Commission. The County Treasurer is the custodian of all money for the schools belonging to the different districts until disbursed. The Treasurer pays county criminal fees, jurors fees, receives and distributes various funds from the state. It is also the duty of the Treasurer to have separate funds for each account and to pay out revenues. The County Treasurer must settle all accounts with the County Clerk and County Commission semi-annually. |
